Yesterday I again did the Quad Cycles ride. I seem to have this bad pattern going where I'll do a big ride or hit some other distraction, take a week or two off, and wind up almost starting from scratch, so yesterday's ride was "only" 63 miles and I was pretty wiped when we made it to Starbucks. (I think I'm still on track to hit the September centuries.) After speculatively eyeing the weather for most of the week, it did wind up being a beautfiul day, especially when you were moving, though I also discovered the joys of iced Gatorade when I got home. First up was the Tour of Britain Tour Ride, 140km along the same route the pro’s rode only the week before. The event is put on by the same crew that run the actual Tour, so the emphasis is put on the full experience, with the start and finish using the same gantry and set up, along with the NEG outriders and neutral service etc. I got there early but already the massive car park at Trentham was filling up and having found my riding buddy and fellow TVR Car Club member Andy Watton, we headed out to the start line. Sadly not long after the first feed I lost Andy – I was plugging away thinking he was on my wheel, but after looking around found he wasn’t Having marshalled the actual stage as per my last blog, I can say that all this was in place along with an event village and even the crowds were out to complete the atmosphere.
