Cyclists who write must have something interesting to write about, which usually involves interesting places to ride and an interesting local cycling culture. I assume that is why the most popular cycling blogs are based in Australia, the Rocky Mountains or on one of the U.S. coasts. A few of us poke around down in Texas, but I have found no one reporting from the Deep South,  AKA Dixie, Old South, Bible Belt, Black Belt, etc.

Americus, Ga. , is a town of about 17,000 that few have heard of. Those few probably know it as the home of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) and Koinonia Farm, or they may be old enough to remember when national news media called it the “meanest town in America” during the civil rights movement. It’s a place with tremendous history that is as full of idealistic hope as it is destitute poverty.
