Dougie Vipond laughs off mountain bike crash

"When I went back to the race people were asking where were my injuries and then said it was a pretty dramatic way to get myself out of the race."

He had been attempting the first lap and had fallen off a few times because of snow and ice on the route.

Mr Vipond, who has previously cycled the Strathpuffer, said: "I wasn't falling off because it was dangerous because plenty of the others were getting over the snow and ice with no problems. It was because I wasn't good enough.

I have a crush.

I cannot deny it.  I wish my crush was directed at a cute boy, but I just don’t seem to be running into many of those.

You may remember my love of spinning .  It still exists.  In fact, it single-handedly caused me to dream up plans for my trusty (and rusty) Trek that was hanging out in the garage.  The Trek is basically a mountain bike with hybrid tires.  It was an awesome birthday present my Junior or Senior year of high school and transported me around OU’s campus for five years.  What it also did during those five years was live outside.  It was rained on, frozen, thawed by my rear, snowed on, and for all I know it was struck by lightning.  It has faced the elements and somehow survived to make it to my garage where it acquired two very flat tires, several cobwebs, and a good 1/2 inch of dirt.  Two weeks ago I took that baby out of the garage, dropped it off at the bike shop, and let the repairmen resuscitate my trusty friend.  They did a mighty fine job and also helped me add a very awesome wire mesh basket to the handlebars.  Wa la!  I had a working bike.  And then I tried to ride it quickly…

Question about mountain bike handlebars: Can I change them with dropped road bike handlebars?

I am buying a Schwinn Mesa GSD, but they come with a handlebar mountain bike regularly (right).
