Mongoose Mountain Bike

One of the best parts of getting in shape is that there are so many different sports you can sample to find what you like. Distance running is a world apart from 5K running and mountain biking is a different animal than road biking entirely.

But trying new things doesn’t always end well and while you don’t need the most expensive equipment to try something out it is important to have equipment that works. I learned this the hard way this weekend when my attempt to try out a new biking sport, Cyclocross, ended very quickly and very badly because of a last minute breakdown.

:  Michelle “Wile E. Coyote”  has hit 100 miles for the month of August today with her 5 mile run this morning and is planning on going over 100 miles for the month!!

Just a note about Ted.  He is one of my best running/friends.  He is consistently there for me with motivation and he makes me laugh.  Nuff said.

Yikes.  First let me say that running is my first love.  I will always put running in the #1 position but I have been thinking a lot about cycling.  I have also been thinking a lot about purchasing a new bike.  The kind of bike I want costs just a bit too much right now for my budget, so I had the brilliant idea of taking my old Mongoose mountain bike to my bike shop to be resurrected and brought back to the land of the living.  Would you believe that after a long hiatus all it needed was brand new tires and some fine tuning?  The guy even said the bike is a “classic” whatever that means.

I recently bought a mountain bike 21 speed Mongoose and I seem to have misplaced the manual. On the right handlebar lever speeds of 1-7. The other is marked by several LH dashes inbetween.

The left side controls your front derailleur that moves the chain between the small center, and large platters in front.

The L means low and H means high, it is the train for the front (of speed on your crank).

I would like to upgrade some parts on my mountain bike Mongoose D60r but I do not know where to start. I can not find the specifications for the line bike.

One line of thought is that this is not really a bike worthy upgrade. Dept store bikes are considered disposable: the rise until they die, then buy another.
