Delaware is a tiny state-second only to Rhode Island-but what it lacks in size it makes up for in great destination features. If you’re an avid biker, you don’t want to miss out on the bike trails in this state-with trails that are suitable for both beginning and advanced riders. You won’t find any mountains, but rolling terrain and other technical challenges will keep your rides fun and interesting.

Take the whole family out to Lums Pond not far from Glasgow and enjoy a hilly 10-mile route that loops back to where you started. You can venture onto a dirt trail near the creek if you want, and there are bridges along the way to enhance the view. This trail can get muddy after heavy rains, though, so you may want to wait until the trails have dried up a bit before starting out. And be sure to bring bug spray. The insects can get a little aggressive. This trail is also used by horseback riders and hikers.

According to USA Cycling, the program, which targets riders age 15 and 16, is “designed to take the next generation of young, talented amateur BMX athletes to the highest level of BMX racing. At the camp, they receive specific high-performance training for BMX and access to the Supercross World Cup BMX Track, and they experience a day in the life of a U. S. Olympic athlete. This program gives talented BMX athletes ages 15-16 access to the U. S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. During the winter, 15-year-old Taylor Stephens can be found shoveling snow off the sidewalk in front of his Redmond home, allowing him to perform sprints on his bike. The challenges of travel and weather are beginning to pay off for the Redmond teen, who recently returned from his second stint at the BMX U. S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. 3-9) with his top placings in the USA Cycling BMX Junior Development Program Series, staged at national races throughout the year. During the racing season, he is traveling nearly every weekend to compete at American Bicycle Association BMX national events.
