Beginners will welcome the flat terrain on the 10-mile dirt trail near Colchester in the Salmon River State Forest. It’s the perfect place to start if you don’t have much experience, and the beautiful scenery makes the trail a pleasure to ride. Thursday, Officers Joe Roberts and Robert Clark responded to a report of an attempted robbery at the office of the AT&T Yellow Pages on the fourth floor of 545 Long Wharf Dr. A man had hid in a woman’s cubicle there, then grabbed her purse. Officer Roberts pulled his cruiser forward, then looked in his rearview mirror and saw the man look back at him and take off running. As Officer Roberts was pulling up to the building in his cruiser, the man walked past his car. The man didn’t match the description of the suspect, but something made him suspicious: The man was sweating. Responding to a report of a robbery, Officer Joe Roberts saw a man leaving the scene. He was charged with third-degree robbery, second-degree larceny, third-degree burglary, breach of peace and interfering with police. The man was able to get past a security guard because he had taken off an identifying jacket in the elevator, so a clothing description no longer matched. Roberts chased after him and caught the 46-year-old man, whom the victim ID’d.
