But on her return to Danegrove School, in East Barnet, eight-year-old Grace Bryceland was able to speak of a summer spent racing in BMX competitions, and how a trip to the World Championships in Denmark saw her ranked sixth in the world for her... Having qualified via heats throughout the UK, Grace went to Copenhagen in July to compete in the girls’ eight-year-old category at the UCI BMX World Championship. “She’s really cool,” said Grace of her favourite rider, who will be hoping to compete in next year’s London Olympics – BMX racing became an event in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Time will tell if Grace stays on track with her ambitions, but she’s made a promising start since she started racing two years ago – and she certainly has the pedigree. Grace, from New Barnet, now has her eye on boosting her world ranking when the championships come to Birmingham next year.
