Smyers and the other cyclists waiting for the next heat are in a long row, riding bikes mounted onto stationary training machines. Smyers, 48, won the Hawaiian Ironman in 1995 and the U.S. Triathlon title six times, but the Lincoln resident said this day’s venue might throw her off a bit.
“I get distracted by the smell of the hops. I’m a very well-known beer drinker,” Smyers said. “It’s hard, it’s hard to stay focused.”

I looked at Jason Reber’s knee during preparations for dinner and the swelling looked a lot worse. The climbing of the last few days had strained it, and he had a nasty fluid buildup. I said, “That knee is going to be trouble if we continue the ride, don’t you think?”
It was September 2006 at Bruceport County Park, Washington, five days into a ride from Port Townsend, Washington, to San Francisco along the spectacular Pacific coast. It was only a day’s ride to the Oregon border, but Jason and I found our problems were increasing. Why would my brand new bike tire and tube go flat overnight?

I bought a vintage bike used with a flat tire dry rot. I took it to a bike shop and they replaced the tire and inner tube, and a day or two later, it is flat without even riding. I have swollen again and he did not move again another day or two later. What could be causing this?
It has a little rust on it ... if it has "rusted wheels" as FlyingPenguin said, could I remove the tire, remove the rust, then put the tire back on? How does a rusty rim, causing a leak?

the inner tube was cheap and light ... fill it with mud tires and you will never have a flat again!
