I have used my favorite Windows image viewer, IrfanView , to do simple joining of pictures. There is a Panorama tool in the Image drop-down.

I understand there is a at least one plug-in for GIMP that does panoramas. I have not tried that plug-in, though. I find the GIMP rather challenging to use.

For yesterday's panorama I used a trial copy of DoubleTake on a Macintosh computer at work. The trial copy leaves a watermark. Due to me goofing up the panorama the watermark appeared somewhere else on the page and I cropped it out. In spite of that, I must say the software is very easy to use, and did a fine job of stitching the pictures together. The software is very inexpensive, too, if you decide to purchase it. I was not able to get the 360 degree view stich together. It kept giving me an error message about only working in 32-bit mode, and I couldn't follow the directions to change it.
